1 | Switch ignition off, remove ignition key (transmitter key). | On vehicles with Code 889 Keyless Go: Press keyless go start/stop button repeatedly until the ignition is switched off. Remove the Keyless Go transmitter card or transmitter key from the vehicle and store beyond the reach of the transmitter (min. 2 m). | |
2 | Drain coolant from radiator | ||
3 | Remove left engine intake air duct and pull front engine cover upwards and out of the mounts | ||
4.1 | Dismount the top coolant hose (1) from the coolant thermostat housing (2) and place it on the side | Engine 272 | |
Installation: Replace O-ring (1a). | |||
4.2 | Loosen coolant pipe from coolant thermostat and front cover at left cylinder head and place to one side | Engine 273 | |

5 | Remove guide pulley (3) of poly-V-belt | ||
6 | Unlatch electrical connector at three-disk thermostat valve (Y110) and disconnect | ||
7 | Remove bolts (2a, 2 pieces) | | |
8 | Pull out coolant thermostat housing (2) with coolant thermostat from timing case cover | The coolant thermostat and coolant thermostat housing (2) are a single unit. The coolant thermostat must not be taken out of coolant thermostat housing (2) as it can get damaged in the process. | |
Installation of engine 272: Replace O-ring (2b) and gasket (2c). | |||
Installation of engine 273: Replace gasket (2c). | |||
9 | Install in the reverse order | ||
