Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery.

Position boost pressure control diaphragm capsule (2) together with the bracket outside of the working area (arrow).

 Remove screw (3) to do this.

Remove the heat shield (5).

 To do so, remove the screw/bolts (6).

Remove electrical wiring harness (9) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (8).

Remove electric line (11) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (10).

Raise vehicle.

Lower vehicle.

Remove starter (1).

 To do this, guide out starter (1) between the boost pressure control diaphragm capsule (2) and exhaust manifold.



Check

Check ring gear on flywheel or drive plate for damage and wear.

 To do so, rotate engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation.

Replace flywheel or drive plate.

Check starter drive pinion for damage and wear.

In the case of damage,



Replace starter (1).

Install in the reverse order.
