Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove

Remove air filter housing.

Detach ground line of on-board electrical system battery.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling

Lower vehicle.

Remove cover from the nut (3).

Remove electric line (2) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (3).

Remove electric line (4) from starter (1).

 For this purpose, remove nut (5).

Remove starter (1).

 To do so, remove the screw/bolts (6).



Check

Check starter drive pinion for damage and wear.

Depending on the findings,



Replace starter (1).

Check ring gear at drive plate for damage and wear.

 For this purpose, check visible area at ring gear through starter opening.

If required for a clear establishing of findings



Lift vehicle, slightly further turn engine at crankshaft in direction of engine rotation, lower vehicle and check ring gear again.

 Repeat process until a clear establishment of findings is achieved.

Depending on the findings,



Replace drive plate.

Remove/install drive plate

Install

Install starter (1).

 For this purpose, screw in screws (6).

 Bolt, starter to transmission housing

Install electric line (4) at starter (1).

 For this purpose, attach nut (5).

 Nut, electrical line to starter

Install electric line (2) at starter (1).

 For this purpose, attach nut (3).

 Nut, electrical line to starter

Install cover at nut (3).

Install lower engine compartment lining.
