4 | Release exhaust pipe clamp (1) and remove exhaust pipe (1) from engine brake valve fitting (14) by pushing it rearward | Bolt, clamp to exhaust pipe on valve fitting for engine brake/exhaust fitting | |
5 | Disconnect compressed-air line (12) from engine brake cylinder (3) | ||
6 | Remove shield (13) | Bolt, shield to turbocharger | |
7 | Remove oil return hose (11) from cylinder crankcase | Catch escaping engine oil and seal bores. | |
8 | Remove charge air pipe (9) from exhaust gas turbocharger (7) to charge air cooler | ||
Connect exhaust gas turbocharger (7) to secure it. | |||
9 | Remove exhaust gas turbocharger (7) with engine brake valve fitting (14) | ||
10 | Remove engine brake cylinder (3) with bracket (4) and remove engine brake valve fitting (14) from exhaust gas turbocharger (7) | Only if replacing exhaust gas turbocharger (7). | |

Observe engine oil grade set in maintenance system or Specifications for Operating Fluids. | |||

Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. | |
14 | Start engine and allow to run in idle for 10 s until the oil pressure has built up, then run the engine at varying speeds | ||
15 | Switch off engine and check area of exhaust gas turbocharger (7) for leaktightness | Visual inspection. |
