1 Rotate rotor shaft (1) at the shaft nut or at the turbine wheel, at the same time inspect the rotor shaft to ensure that it rotates freely and evenly. Turn the rotor shaft back and forward until it is free of oil carbon deposits.
The rotor shaft is centrifugally-stabilized and is guided in its bearings with a relatively large play.
Inspecting axial play:
2 Move rotor shaft (1) in longitudinal direction and inspect whether there is any sign of the turbine wheel or compressor wheel rubbing.
If there is no sign of a rubbing on both sides of the rotor shaft at turbocharger housing, then the axial play is OK.
3 If any rubbing can be felt, replace turbocharger.

Inspecting radial play
4 Deflect rotor shaft (1) in the radial direction and at the same time rotate and inspect whether there is any sign of the turbine wheel or compressor wheel touching.
If there is no sign of a rubbing on both sides of the rotor shaft at turbocharger housing, then the radial play is OK.
5 If any rubbing can be felt, replace turbocharger.
