Danger! | Risk of explosion caused by ignition of flammable products, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling fuel vapors or swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to skin and eyes exposed to fuel. | No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
1 | Remove cylinder head cover trim
| |||
2 | Slacken charge air pipe (110/6) | Remove bolts (1) and lay charge air pipe (110/6) to one side.
3 | Remove bolts (3) on charge air cooler
4 | Detach coupling (4) from pressure and temperature sensor
5 | Lay charge air cooler (5) to one side | Lead charge air cooler carefully to the front of the vehicle and disconnect from exhaust return flow connection; this is located under the charge air cooler.
6 | Disconnect electric plug connections at rail pressure sensor (B4/6) and pressure regulator valve (Y74)
7 | Remove injection line (11) | When loosening and detaching the union nuts with a wrench, counterhold the injectors on threaded sleeve on order to prevent damage to the threaded sleeve.
On no account exceed tightening torque. This will prevent the threaded connections from being slackened when the lines are unscrewed again.
Do not crimp or bend lines. After disconnecting the injection lines, seal connections. Ensure scrupulous cleanliness!
Installation: Ensure lines are exactly located. Inspect sealing cone at the lines; replace lines if compression points exist.
| |||
8 | Remove pressure line (10) for high-pressure pump to rail (2) | When loosening the union nut, counterhold with a wrench in order to loosen the threaded sleeve.
On no account exceed tightening torque. This will prevent the threaded connection from being slackened when the line is unscrewed again. Do not crimp or bend line. Ensure scrupulous cleanliness!
| |||
9 | Remove pressure line (8) holder
10 | Disconnect fuel return line (6) for high-pressure pump on rail (2) | Observe safety clamp handling.
11 | Unscrew fuel return line to fuel cooler (7) on rail (2) | Installation: Replace sealing rings.
12 | Remove rail (2) | Installation: Only tighten rail (2) after installation of all high-pressure line.
| |||
13 | Install in the reverse order
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
14 | Check fuel system for leaks with engine running
15 | Read out fault memory and erase | Stored faults possibly caused by previous simulation or by cables disconnected in the process of installation or testing must be processed and erased in the DTC memories once all work is completed.
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory |
