Inspect

Inspect valve guides (2) for wear



Visual inspection:

The surface of the valve guides must not be damaged.

- Inspect the inner diameter (B) of valve guide

 It must not be possible to insert the side of the gage marked with '+' into the valve guide.

 If a valve guide does not satisfy both requirements, it must be replaced.



Remove

Remove valve guides (2) from the cylinder head (1) from the combustion side



 Only if valve guide has to be replaced because of the measurement obtained in step 2.

Measuring

Measure bore of valve guide (A) in cylinder head and outer diameter of new valve guide (A)

 The measurement is only necessary if the valve guide has been removed in step 3.1.

If one of the two measurements differs from the specifications, the bore in the cylinder head as well as the outer diameter of the matching, new valve guide must be re-worked to the next oversize.

Install

 Danger!

Risk of injury when handling liquid nitrogen or from touching extremely cool objects. Risk of asphyxiation from inhaling nitrogen gas.

Wear heat-protective gloves, protective clothing and full eye protection.
Ensure that the work area is adequately ventilated.

Insert valve guide into the supercooling box





- Fill supercooling box with liquid nitrogen.

- Supercool valve guide for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Use drift and spacer bush to press in new valve guide



From the combustion side.

 Coat the new valve guide on the outside with graphited oil.

Pay attention to dimension (D).

Distance from top edge of valve guide to contact surface of valve spring

 After installing the valve guide, it is necessary to re-work

- the bore of the valve guide
