Remove

Remove cylinder head cover.

Turn engine at crankshaft with counterholder in direction of engine rotation and position piston of cylinder 1 at top dead center (ignition TDC).


Do not rotate engine backwards.
Otherwise the timing chain jumps and causes engine damage.

 The 0° marking (12) must be aligned with the TDC marking (13).

Install retaining lock for crankshaft.

Install hold-down tools (7, 8) on intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) and tighten screws.

When replacing the camshaft housing (1).

 The camshaft housing (1) cannot be separated from the intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).
Install hold-down tool (7) first and then hold-down tool (8).

Fix gearwheels (10) and spur gears (9) in place in relation to each other using the locking bolts (11).

 Turn spur gears (9) in direction of arrow until gearwheels (10) and spur gears (9) can be fixed in place in relation to each other using the locking bolts (11).

Loosen screws of gearwheels (10).

When replacing the camshaft housing (1).

Remove hold-down tools (7, 8).

When replacing the camshaft housing (1).

Unscrew the screws (5) in reverse order of tightening procedure.

Install hold-down tools (7, 8) on intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) without screws.

 To ensure that the intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) do not get twisted.

Remove camshaft housing (1) with intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).

Remove O-ring (6) on cylinder head.

Check

Check camshaft housing (1) with intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) for damage.

If problems exist,



Replace camshaft housing (1) with intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).

Check gearwheels (10) of intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) for damage.

If problems exist,



Replace gearwheels (10) of intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) and tighten new screws lightly by hand.

Install

Modify gearwheels (10) of intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).

When replacing the camshaft housing (1) and the intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).

 Tighten new screws of gearwheels (10) lightly by hand.

Install O-ring (6) on cylinder head.

 Replace O-ring (6).

Remove hold-down tools (7, 8).

Screw in screws (5) and tighten in the sequence of the tightening procedure.

Install hold-down tools (7, 8) and tighten screws.

When replacing the camshaft housing (1) and the intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3).

Tighten screws of gearwheels (10).

When replacing the camshaft housing (1) and the intake and exhaust camshafts (2, 3) or gearwheels (10).

Use counterholder to relieve spur gears (9) and remove locking bolts (11).

 Slowly relieve spur gears (9).
