2	Check piston crown by means of visual inspection for damage

4	Remove pistons	 Only if wear or damage was found on the piston crown or cylinder contact surface:

5	Check piston skirt and piston ring by means of a visual inspection for wear and damage

6	Remove connecting rod and check connecting rod bearing bushing (connecting rod eye) through visual inspection for wear and damage or angular movement of the oil holes	 The connecting rod must be replaced if there are score marks and notches. Can the damage profile no longer be assessed clearly: 

7	Check connecting rod bearing and connecting rod journal by means of a visual inspection for wear and damage	 If wear or damage are found the engine must be remove and repaired. Do not carry out any further steps.
