Remove/install

Remove ignition coils.

Remove exhaust CAMTRONIC actuator for cylinders 2 and 3 (Y49/26).

Remove heat shield from exhaust gas turbocharger.

Remove the timing case cover.

 Installation: Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.

Release and disconnect electrical connector of the exhaust camshaft Hall sensor (B6/16).

Remove exhaust camshaft Hall sensor(B6/16).

When installing new exhaust cylinder head cover (7).

Remove ball head for the engine cover.

When installing new exhaust cylinder head cover (7).

Remove screws (1, 2) and remove return line bracket.

Remove screw (3) and place ground line to one side.

Remove screws (4, 5) and carefully place bracket (6) with connected lines to one side.


Do not crush or kink or subject lines to tension.
This causes damage to the lines and impairs their function.

Remove screws (8 to 19) contrary to the tightening procedure.

Carefully release exhaust cylinder head cover (7) with a suitable tool from the cylinder head and remove.


Do not pound in tool for prying off between the outlet cylinder head cover (7) and cylinder head.
The sealing surfaces can be damaged otherwise.

Remove sealing compound and clean sealing surfaces on the exhaust cylinder head cover (7) and on the cylinder head.

Check engine oil level, correct if necessary.



Carry out engine test run and check function and leak tightness of the engine.
