Check

1

Check individually the ball joints of the steering rod and of the tie-rod

Do not utilize tools or devices that may puncture the rubber boot (1).

2

Check if the rubber boot (1) presents corrosion points

The corrosion points may not exceed 1 mm depth.

3

Make a visual analysis of the rubber boot (1) in order to detect holes or cracks

When the boot (1) is pressed manually, no leaks of grease may occur through holes or cracks. Leaking of grease in the area of the sealing rings may occur.

If there is some damage in the rubber boot (1), the ball joint (3) will have to be replaced, as the inlet of water or debris reduces the durability of the terminal.

4

Examine the sealing rings (2) to check if they are duly seated on the lodgings of the rubber boot (1) and if the rubber boot is duly fastened on the spherical joint (3)

If the rubber boot is fastened on the articulation, it should not be possible to turn it (1) by hand.

5

Check if the cotter pin is correctly seated in the castellated nut housing and if it does not present corrosion

Only on articulations of the steering rod and tie-rod fastened with castellated nut and cotter pin

6

Check inf the castellated nut or self-locking nut (5) is perfectly seated on the tie-rod face (4)

7

Check by means or rotational torque and axial play if the articulations of the steering rod and tie-rod present wear
