Adjust | |||
1 | Loose counternut (2) | ||
2 | Hold counternut (2) and screw it (1) until sliding pad (3) touches the ring gear
3 | Unscrew the screw (1) 1/3 of one turn (120°), thus obtaining clearance “A” between the ring gear and the screw | Pay attention to the screw's return according to the corresponding turn.
Clearance between the thrust bolt and the ring gear
4 | Tighten the counternut (2), locking the thrust screw against the rear axle housing | The thrust screw adjustment may work as an important indicator of the pre-load of the differential case bearings.
The touching of the sliding piece on the ring gear is perfectly perceptible by the increase of resistance to turn the screw. If after the sliding piece has touched the ring gear the thrust screw continues threading in, it will be a clear indication of differential case bearings play, thus requiring due adjustment.
