| Open maintenance flap above transmission
| Check engine brake cylinder (1), ball joint (2) and throttle shaft (5) for wear | Replace any parts which are not in proper condition subject to separate repair order. The ball joint must be lubricated
| Check that throttle valve lever (3) is tightly seated on the throttle valve shaft (5)
Adjusting | |||
| Check preload of engine brake cylinder (1) in neutral position of engine brake | The preload is adequate if the throttle valve lever (1) is moved up against the bracket (2) by the restoring spring of the engine brake cylinder. In operating position the throttle lever (1) must again touch the bracket (2).
| Check position of throttle valve shaft (5) in the neutral and operating position | In neutral position the notch (4) must be parallel, and in operating position perpendicular to the flow direction of the exhaust gases.
| Unplug cable connector from electropneumatic 2/3-way engine brake control valve and energize the valve direct with a voltage of 24 V | On vehicles with automatic engine brake shutoff in combination with automatic transmission. The control valve must be energized direct in order to actuate the engine brake when the vehicle is stationary or the engine is stopped. The valve is located on the right side in front of the rear axle.
| Actuate engine brake | On vehicles without automatic engine brake shutoff in combination with manual transmission. The exhaust brake cylinder must disengage. |
