SI91.60-P-0008A | Service information: Replacement of front acceleration sensors following head-on collision | 24.2.03 |
MODEL 211, 215, 220
Two front acceleration sensors are located on the radiator crossmember on the end to recognize the severity of an impact and shorten the period of time between initial contact with the obstacle and triggering of the emergency tensioning retractors and front airbags. In addition to the signal from the airbag control module on the tunnel, these signals are also used in the triggering algorithm.
To ensure proper function of the airbag system and front acceleration sensors, please observe the following after a head-on collision:
The front acceleration sensors fastened to the right and left radiator crossmembers should always be replaced following a head-on collision, when:
- sheet metal deformation is present in the mounting area of the front acceleration sensors.
- the front acceleration sensors are torn or damaged.
