13 Tensioner
Complaint: Tension lever bearing for poly V-belt tensioner worn Engines 601, 602, 603 |
Cause/Remedy:
The bush in tension lever (360) can wear after a longer period of use.
Since 09/85 a modified tension lever with angular contact ball bearing has been fitted.
Can be fitted retroactively in event of repair.
Coat the fitted bolt (30a) with
Omnifit 100 M adhesive, part no. 002 989 23 71, and tighten to 100 Nm.

13 Belt drive
Complaint: Noises from area of the single belt drive Damaged or cracked belts Damage to coolant pump pulley, to idler pulley bracket and fan Engines 601, 602, 603 |
Cause/Remedy:
Bearing pin (30) of idler pulley bracket (360) has partly unscrewed and bracket chafes on the coolant pump pulley (346).
1 Remove idler pulley bracket.
2 Unscrew bearing pin.

3 Clean grease off threads on timing case cover and bearing pin.
4 Coat thread in timing case cover and on bearing pin with Activator Loctite, Part no.
001 989 91 71 or Omnifit (contained within
the scope of supply for adhesives, Part no.
002 989 09 71).
5 Coat threads of bearing pin with Rapid
100 M adhesive, Part no. 002 989 23 71 00 produced by Omni-Technik.
6 Screw in bearing pin and tighten to 100 Nm. Maintain curing time of approx. 1 - 2 hours.
7 Replace damaged parts.
13 Poly V-belt tensioner
Complaint: Noises from belt drive or from poly V-belt tensioner such as - Chattering, vibrating noises when starting up at low engine speed - Whistling, squeaking, knocking at idle and in lower engine speed range Engines 601, 602, 603 |
Cause/remedy:
Damper leaky.
Piston rod can be moved easily at some positions; oil flowing noises audible
Rubber mount in mounting eye for damper loose or torn; light alloy bushings worn; mounting nut loose.
Replace damper.

Before installing a new damper, move piston rod back and forth a number of times. Grease leakage or roughness on the roller bearing for the tensioning lever do not have any effect on the function. Tensioning lever can be reused.
