On vehicles as of 01.09.2015 (model year 2016) there are two chassis CAN variants.
Variant 1:
If the vehicle does not contain any of the equipment codes specified in variant 2, then, as before, only one chassis CAN (CAN E) is available.
Version 2:
If the vehicle includes one of the following equipment codes, a chassis CAN 1 (CAN E1) and a chassis CAN 2 (CAN E2) are available:
Code 218 (Reversing camera)
CODE 234 (Blind Spot Assist)
Code 459 (Steel suspension with adjustable damping)
Code 475 (Tire pressure monitor)
Code 476 (Lane Keeping Assist)
Code 513 (Traffic Sign Assist)
CODE 614 (Bi-xenon headlamp)
CODE 615 (Bi-xenon headlamp with active curve lights)
CODE 618 (Bi-xenon headlamp)
Code 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic))
Code 622 (Intelligent Light System)
Code 631 (Static LED headlamps for left-hand traffic system)
Code 632 (Static LED headlamps for right-hand traffic system)
A differentiation is made in the following text between Variant 1 and Variant 2.

TV mode, general
With CODE 865 (TV tuner), the tuner unit makes it possible to receive digital TV channels. The tuner unit separates the video and the audio signals from each other and forwards them separately. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:
Operation function sequence
Function sequence for TV signal reception
Function sequence for video signal
Function sequence for audio signal
Supplemental information
The COMAND controller unit switches the TV picture off when the vehicle starts to move. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The COMAND controller unit receives the speed signal via interior CAN from the instrument cluster.
Operation function sequence
The COMAND controller unit generates the menu displays and transmits them to the Audio/COMAND display via an LVDS line.
The control signals of the Audio/COMAND control panel are forwarded via the following route:
Telematics CAN
COMAND controller unit
MOST
Tuner unit
With variant 1 the signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded via the following route:
Steering wheel electronics
Steering LIN
Steering column tube module control unit
Chassis CAN
Instrument cluster
Interior CAN
COMAND controller unit
MOST
Tuner unit
With variant 2 the signals of the left multifunction steering wheel button group and the right multifunction steering wheel button group are forwarded via the following route:
Steering wheel electronics
Steering LIN
Steering column tube module control unit
Chassis CAN 1
Electronic ignition lock control unit
Chassis CAN 2
Instrument cluster
Interior CAN
COMAND controller unit
MOST
Tuner unit
Function sequence for TV signal reception
In model 246, 242, 117.9, 156 and 176, the TV-1 signal and the TV-3 signal are received via the following route:
Windshield antenna
TV1 and DAB antenna amplifier or TV 3 antenna amplifier
Tuner unit
In model 246, 242, 117.9, 156 and 176 the TV-2 signal is received via the following route:
Rear window antenna
FM2, DAB and TV2 antenna amplifier
Tuner unit
In model 117.3 the TV-2 signal is received via the following route:
Rear window antenna
TV2 and DAB antenna amplifier
Tuner unit
In model 117.3 the TV-1 signal and the TV-3 signal are received via the following route:
Windshield antenna
TV 1 antenna amplifier or TV 3 antenna amplifier
Tuner unit
Function sequence for video signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the tuner unit, the video signals are output via the following route:
LVDS line
COMAND controller unit
LVDS line
Audio/COMAND display
Function sequence for audio signal
After the TV signals have been processed in the tuner unit, the audio signals are sent via MOST to the COMAND controller unit (except CODE 810 (Sound system)) or to the sound system amplifier control unit (with CODE 810 (Sound system)) where they are amplified and output over the speaker system.
Supplemental information
The supplemental information is subdivided into the following categories:
TV reception
Additional functions
TV reception
The reception of encoded programs is possible with a B-CAS SIM card (Subscriber Identification Module). With digital TV reception, the "one-segment" substandard (TV standard for mobile telephony) is also supported in addition to the "full-segment" substandard.
The tuner unit is delivered with a "B-CAS card" inserted into the integrated SIM card reader. The SIM card reader is covered with a seal.
Additional functions
The tuner unit has the following functions:
Digital image storage
Last settings
"BML" (Broadcast Markup Language) function: The tuner unit supports videotext for all available Japanese TV stations. This enables information on weather, news, etc. to be shown similar to a small website. By selecting a region from a list, regionalized information can be displayed.
"EPG" (Electronic Program Guide) function: The Electronic Program Guide shows information such as start times and the duration of programs and detailed information about the TV programs for each TV station.
"Bilingual" function: Two languages are supported depending on station availability, e.g. Japanese on the main-sound track and English on the sub-sound track.
