GF15.40-P-2103MCC | Component description for starter-alternator | 9.1.09 |
ENGINE 132.910 in MODEL 451.334 /380 /480
M1/10 Starter-alternator
Location
The starter-alternator is located on the right on the engine.
Task
The starter-alternator driven by a poly-V belt delivers an adequate amount of energy to the on-board electrical system at all rotational speeds occurring during driving and thus ensures the on-board electrical system supply and the charging of the battery (G1). In addition, it assumes the function of the starter.

"Starter" function
Actuation takes place via the starter-alternator control unit (N129). At circuit 50 On, the starter-alternator is energized and drives the engine via the V-belt.
Due to the special feature of the varying load conditions in the start-stop mode, the belt tension gains special important. A coaxial spring-damper element linked to the starter-alternator supports itself on the cylinder crankcase. The starter-alternator is swivel-mounted so that it can bring tension force in the belt drive.
"Alternator" function
Voltage generation in the starter-alternator is based on the principle of induction. The AC voltage generated by the starter-alternator is passed to the starter-alternator control unit via a three-phase line. The regulation as well as the rectification of the generated AC voltage is undertaken by electronics integrated in the starter-alternator control unit.
