Task
The charge air pressure and temperature sensor records the boost pressure and the charge air temperature in the charge air distributor. The engine management control unit (MR) (A6) inputs in the signals of the charge air pressure and temperature sensor directly.
Structure
Integrated in the charge air pressure and temperature sensor are a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor and an electronic system for signal amplification and temperature compensation.
Function
Recording the boost pressure:
The pressure sensor in the charge air pressure and temperature sensor generates an output voltage depending on the boost pressure in the charge air distributor. The engine management control unit (MR) inputs this output voltage directly and calculates the boost pressure in the charge air distributor by means of a characteristics map.
Recording the charge air temperature:
The NTC (negative temperature coefficient) resistance integrated in the charge air pressure and temperature sensor gas changes its electrical resistance according to the charge air temperature in the charge air distributor.
NTC means "Negative Temperature Coefficient": the electrical resistance decreases as temperature increases (NTC thermistor).
On the basis of the charge air pressure and temperature sensor's values, the engine management control unit (MR) identifies the air mass that is supplied to the internal combustion engine for combustion.
