Risk of injury caused by release of spring in the automatic belt retractor is released.

Never disassemble automatic belt retractors.

Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply.

Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Move front seat all the way forward and position seat backrest in vertical direction

Disconnect battery ground cable

Remove cover (13) and unscrew bolt (15) from belt end fitting (14)

 Installation: Ensure that arresting lug (16) is seated correctly.



Remove paneling on B-pillar

Unscrew bolt (1) and remove seat belt guide bracket (2)



Remove screw (5)

 Installation: Install safeguard (9) in cover (7).



Unscrew screws (6) and remove cover (7)



Remove automatic belt retractor (4)

 Installation: Note different versions (left, right) of emergency tensioning retractor and its proper location in the catch. Noises from the automatic belt reel when rolling up belt are normal. In the event of complaint annoying noises can only be eliminated by replacing seat belt together with emergency tensioning retractor.

 On no account should oil or grease be used to help eliminate noise. Inertia reels that have been opened are no longer under warranty. If the seat belt with emergency tensioning retractor is replaced, the defective emergency tensioning retractor must be disposed of properly:



Unclip squib cable from clip (8) and detach electrical connector (3) on driver ETR [GUS] squib (R12/1) or front passenger ETR [GUS] squib (R12/2)
