| Notes on repairs to Telestart | If the vehicle has been installed with Telestart T61: | |
Remove heater | |||
1 | Connect no load current retention unit
2 | Disconnect ground cable of battery
3 | Remove inner liner in front fender | Only on right-hand side.
4 | Remove body panel at exhaust through feed (4 nuts)
Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
5 | Relieve pressure in coolant circuit | To do so open the coolant expansion tank cap.
6 | Detach coolant feed hose (3) and coolant return hose (4) from heater with matra clamps | Circuit.
7 | Detach coolant feed hose (3) downstream of check valve (2) | Collect escaping coolant in a clean vessel and return to the coolant compensation tank following the installation of the heater unit.
8 | Detach coolant return hose (4) from circulation pump (A6m1) | Collect escaping coolant in a clean vessel and return to the coolant compensation tank following the installation of the heater unit.
Danger! | Risk of explosion from fuel igniting, risk of poisoning from inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin from contact with fuel. | No fire, sparks, naked flames or smoking. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
9 | Detach fuel hose (7) from fuel line (magnifier) | Collect escaping fuel.
10 | Undo nuts (6) in wheel housing and longitudinal frame member
11 | Unclip black, 2-pin coupling (9) and black, 6-pin coupling (10) from STH heater unit or heater booster (A6)
12 | Remove STH heater unit or heater booster (A6) with bracket (11) and circulation pump (A6m1) from wheel housing | Pull off combustion air intake hose (12) from impression in wheelhouse. Installation: Check that the groove (see arrow) of the combustion air intake hose (12) is correctly seated.
13 | Remove detachable body components on stationary heater/heater booster | Installation: Make sure that only one STH heater unit or heater booster (A6) as of model year 01.00 is installed.

14 | Install in the reverse order
15 | Bleed coolant circuit following installation of the heater
| Check | ||
Danger! | Risk of explosion from fuel vapors, risk of poisoning from inhaling combustion gases and risk of injury from burns during and after operation of heater unit | Do not operate stationary heater, auxiliary heater or engine with heater booster in closed areas or when refueling. Allow heater unit to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.
16 | Start up stationary heater | See Star Diagnosis. If the STH heater unit or heater booster (A6) switches itself off before reaching its operating temperature and cannot be restarted, there is a fault interlock:
To clear malfunction interlock,
17 | Inspect cooling system for leaks | Engine 628. Engine 648.960. |
