| Notes on repairing Telestart | If the vehicle was fitted with Telestart T70 | |
Remove heater unit | |||
| Remove/install | ||
1 | Remove right front wheelhousing lining
2 | Remove body panel at exhaust through feed (4 nuts)
3 | Disconnect electrical plug (1). | Ignition: OFF
Danger! | Injury hazard to skin and eyes from being scalded by hot coolant which sprays out. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage bottles. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.
4 | Relieve pressure in coolant circuit | To do so open the coolant expansion tank's cap.
5 | Disconnect coolant line (13) with clamps (10) upstream and downstream of the non-return valve (3)
6 | Open hose clamp (2) and disconnect coolant line (13) from non-return valve (3) | Collect any escaping coolant in a clean container and put back into the coolant expansion tank after heater installation is complete.
7 | Pinch off coolant line (7) using a clamp (10) upstream of the circulation pump (A6m1)
8 | Open hose clamp (6) and disconnect coolant line (7) from circulation pump (A6m1) | Collect any escaping coolant in a clean container and put back into the coolant expansion tank after heater installation is complete.
Danger! | Risk of explosion due to ignition, Risk of poisoning from inhaling fuel vapors and swallowing fuel as well as Injury hazard due to fuel coming into contact with the skin and eyes | Fire, sparks, open flames or smoking forbidden. Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
9 | Open hose clamp (5) and disconnect fuel feed line (4) | Collect escaping fuel.
10 | Unscrew nut (9) of bracket (11) of the heater (A6) on the longitudinal frame member
11 | Unscrew nuts (8) of bracket (11) of the heater (A6) on the longitudinal frame member | Support the heater unit from below before removing the nuts.
12 | Take out the heater of the stationary heater (A6) with bracket (11) and circulation pump (A6m1) | Pull off combustion-air intake hose (16) from impression in wheel house.
| Disassembling, assembling | ||
13 | Detach exhaust gas line with muffler (12) from heater of the stationary heater or heater booster (A6)
14 | Unclip the cover (15) from the heater of the stationary heater or heater booster (A6)
15 | Remove the heater of the stationary heater (A6) by unscrewing the bolts (14) from the bracket (11) and coolant pump (A6m1) | Bolts of bracket to heater unit Installation: Ensure that only a heater up to 30.06.00 is fitted (A6)
16 | Disconnect connector for circulation pump/stationary heater, 2-pin (X73/1)
17 | Install in the reverse order
18 | Bleed the coolant circuit after installing the heater (A6)
| Check | ||
Danger! | Risk of explosion due to fuel vapors, Risk of poisoning from inhaling combustion gases and Injury hazard from burns during or after heater operation | Do not operate stationary heater, booster unit or engine with heater booster in closed areas or when refueling. Allow heater to cool down after operation and wear protective gloves.
19 | Conduct commissioning of stationary heater | Refer to Star diagnosis If the heater switches off automatically (A6) before reaching its operating temperature and also cannot be restarted, a fault interlock is present (proceed with ).
Eradicate malfunction blockage, see Star diagnosis.
20 | Inspect cooling system for leaks |
