Modification notes
7.12.04 | Activate electromagnetic shutoff valve, added | Step 1
Commercially available tools used, exchanged | Step 2
Screw in shutoff valves 2 to 5 turns, added | Step 3
Leak test structured | Steps 5, 6, 7, 8 |
Evacuating | |||
Danger! | Risk of explosion from welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning from inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been discharged.
| Behavior if air conditioning system is damaged or leaking | All models | |
| Notes on handling refrigerant R134a | Air conditioning with refrigerant R134a | |
1 | Activate electromagnetic shutoff valve | If present
Depending on the model and the version, the electromagnetic shutoff valve has to be activated in order to be able to fully evacuate the entire system. Usually, the electromagnetic shutoff valve is located between the fluid reservoir and the expansion valve.

| Cable for activation of solenoid | ||
2 | Connect suction and pressure line of the air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit to the suction-side testing and filling valve (2) and the pressure-side testing and filling valve (1) | Observe the operator's manual of the air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
| |||
3 | Screw in pressure-side shutoff valve (3) and suction-side shutoff valve (4) approx. 2 to 5 turns | The pressure-side shutoff valve (3) and the suction-side shutoff valve (4) are located below the protective caps.
4 | Evacuate air conditioning system | Evacuate air conditioning system circuit until maximum possible vacuum has been reached, but for no less than 1 hour. When humidity has penetrated into the air conditioning circuit, evacuate for at least 8 hours.
Leak test | |||
5 | Switch off air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit | Close valves of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit. Closing the valve prevents an incorrect leak test of the air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
6 | Read off vacuum indication on pressure gauge of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit | Note vacuum pressure value
7 | Read off vacuum indication on pressure gauge again after a waiting time of 10 minutes | Compare current vacuum value to the recorded vacuum value. If a drop in vacuum is detectable:
Fill air conditioning without performing leak test After filling the air conditioning system, check for leaky areas:
Inspect the refrigeration circuit for leaks. Before repairing leaky area empty air conditioning system:
Discharge air conditioning system Check for leaky areas again after the repair work:
Repeat steps 1 to 7. | |||
8 | Fill air conditioning system | Do not evacuate nor perform leak test. |
