Danger! | Risk of injury caused by moving parts that can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. | Keep all body parts and limbs away from moving mechanical components.
1 | Switch off ignition, detach transmitter key from electronic ignition switch control unit
2 | Open both doors | ||
3 | Open stowage compartment (1)
4 | Break out cover (2) from rear wall (3) of stowage compartment (1) with suitable screwdriver
5 | Open emergency opening valve (4) approx. 2 turns
6 | Insert emergency key into trunk lid lock (7)
7 | Pull trunk lid upward on handle (5) with both hands until tubular frame (6) is released | When pulling up, it is necessary to overcome a perceptible resistance.
8 | Put up trunk lid completely toward rear together with tubular frame (6) | To avoid damage to the tubular frame (6) ensure that the trunk lid pulled toward the rear and simultaneously upward on the handle (5) during the motion sequence.
| General notes on repairing tubular frame | ||
9 | Release trunk lid (7) with emergency key, put up trunk lid and move to assembly position as illustrated | It is necessary to hold the trunk lid until it is in the assembly position. Otherwise, the trunk lid will fall closed.
10 | Manually place the rear shelf (8) in the final vertical position | If the Vario roof moves to an intermediate position of the rear shelf (8), the Vario roof can be damaged.
| Notes on the mechanical closing of the Vario roof | ||
11 | Lift lowered Vario roof out of the luggage compartment with a helper at both C-pillars (9) and fold forwards until the position of the C-pillars (9) is at 90° | Move Vario roof only at C-pillars (9). If the Vario roof is moved at the Vario roof section (10), the Vario roof can be damaged.
Avoid collision between rear window and rear shelf (8). It is necessary for a helper to hold the Vario roof in the intermediate position.
12 | Unclip cover (11) in headliner (12) and release front catch on locking bolt (13) completely by turning clockwise
13 | With helper, fold Vario roof toward front until catch hooks (14) engage in mounts (15) | Move Vario roof only at C-pillars (9). If the Vario roof is moved at the Vario roof section (10), the Vario roof can be damaged.
14 | Lock front catch on locking bolt (13) by turning counterclockwise | The lock should engage audibly.
15 | Clip cover (11) into headliner (12)
16 | Push Vario roof down at transition between C-pillars (9) and Vario roof front section (10) (arrow B) | On left and right side of vehicle This completely arrests the C-pillar locks.
17 | Fold rear shelf (8) down by hand with side flaps (16) folded in
18 | Open trunk partition (24)
19.1 | Completely close both rear side windows with STAR DIAGNOSIS | When rear side windows can be actuated with STAR DIAGNOSIS.
| Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory | ||
STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnosis system
19.2 | Open rear side widows with emergency operation feature | If the rear side windows cannot be actuated with STAR DIAGNOSIS, e.g. due to a defect in the power soft top control unit.
20 | Fold tubular frame (6) toward front and insert left and right guide bolt (17) with helper | Ensure that the motion sequence of the left and right is uniform. Otherwise, the tubular frame (6) can be damaged.
| General notes on repairing tubular frame | ||
21 | Lift retainer (20) with suitable screwdriver and simultaneously unclip hydraulic cylinder for trunk lid actuation (21) from tubular frame (6) with suitable screwdriver | Do not remove retainer (20), otherwise, the tension on the retainer (20) would be lost. Carefully unclip hydraulic cylinder for trunk lid actuation (21). Otherwise, the piston rods (22) can be damaged.
Access for lifting retainer (20) through brush frame (18) in trunk paneling (19). Access for unclipping hydraulic cylinder for trunk lid actuation (21) through service flap (23) in trunk lining (19). Unclip left and right hydraulic cylinder for trunk lid actuation (21) from tubular frame.
22 | Position the hydraulic cylinders for trunk lid actuation (21) in the wheelhouses in such a way that they cannot damage surrounding components
23 | Close trunk partition (24)
24 | Close trunk lid and lock trunk lid (7)
25 | Simultaneously press trunk lid towards front and rear in lower area of license plate recess until the tubular frame (6) arrests | When pressing down, it is necessary to overcome a perceptible resistance.
26 | Close emergency opening valve (4)
27 | Plug opening for emergency opening valve (4) in rear wall of stowage compartment (1) with blind plug
28 | Close stowage compartment (1)
29 | Pull fuse 38 out of the interior fuse box (F34) | This prevents the emergency-closed Vario roof from being unintentionally actuated.
| Fuse assignment of fuse box in interior compartment on driver's side | ||
30 | Close both doors |
