Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.

Before opening the hydraulic system of the power steering, thoroughly clean the area surrounding the separation point. Even minute particles of dirt, introduced into the hydraulic components, can result in malfunctions or damage to the power steering

Open engine hood and raise to vertical position

Remove fan shroud

Attach guard plate for radiator/condenser



Remove poly-V belt

Suction off oil from expansion reservoir (1) of power steering



Detach return line (3) from expansion reservoir (1)

 Use a rag to clear up any escaping oil and seal the line connections using stop plugs.



Detach pressure line (4) of power steering from power steering pump (2) by unscrewing the union nut (5)

 Collect oil which runs out with rags and seal line connections

stop plugs.

 Installation: Replace sealing ring.



Detach plug (11) from power steering pump pressure regulator valve (Y10/1)

 Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Raise vehicle

Remove bolts (6), disconnect refrigerant compressor connector (A9x1) and remove refrigerant compressor (A9) from timing case cover and engine support

 Put down refrigerant compressor (A9) with pipe system connected towards the radiator.



Detach ground line from power steering pump (2) by unscrewing bolt (7)



Remove screw (8)



Detach expansion reservoir (1) from front cover on cylinder head; to do this, unscrew bolts (9)



Detach power steering pump (2) from timing case cover by unscrewing the bolts (10)



Remove power steering pump (2) with expansion reservoir (1)

Install in the reverse order

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
