Removing

Remove wheel from trailing axle

Remove brake pads

Remove combination cylinder

Remove brake carrier with brake caliper

Remove cover (10)

Release and unscrew outer slotted nut (8)

 Claw wrench

Remove locking plate (7) and unscrew inner slotted nut (6)

Secure wheel hub (3) using suitable lifting device.

Wheel hub (3), remove outer tapered roller bearing (4) and shim (5)

Remove radial shaft sealing ring (2)



Checking

Check thrust ring (1) for damage and galling

 If necessary, replace thrust ring (1), and coat the thrust ring's (1) seat surface with adhesive.

Install

Install new radial shaft sealing ring (2)

 Clean radial shaft sealing ring (2) seat and coat sealing lip before installation with grease.

 Coat radial shaft sealing ring (2) without rubber-lined outer surfaces on the outer circumference with adhesive.

Push wheel hub (3) onto steering knuckle

 Slide on wheel hub (3) carefully as otherwise the sealing lip for the radial shaft sealing ring (2) may be damaged.

Grease outer tapered roller bearing (4) well and install

Install shim (5)

Tighten inner slotted nut (6)

 When tightening, spin wheel hub (3) and tap wheel hub several times using a rubber mallet in a cross pattern.



Detach inner slotted nut (6) and tighten again until the shim (5) on the outer tapered roller bearing (4) and inner slotted nut (6) make contact with zero clearance

Release inner slotted nut (6) 45°

Apply light coating of oil to locking plate (7) and install

Tighten outer slotted nut (8)



Secure outer slotted nut (8) with locking plate (7)

Install cover (10)

 The cover (10) must be filled with grease, if necessary top up with grease. Install new gasket (9).
