1 Prepare measuring ring (1) for installation in drive pinion bearing.
Drive roll pins (2) sufficiently out of drillings in measuring ring (1) such that dimension 'X' is noticeably greater that the thickness of the spacer ring.
When pushing the outer tapered roller bearing onto the drive pinion gear shaft (step 6), the roll pins (2) must be able to be pushed back until the desired value of friction torque is reached.

2 Push measuring ring (1) onto drive pinion (3).
3 Place pinion housing on drive pinion (3) and push tapered roller bearing up to the stop on the roll pins .
First, heat outer tapered roller bearing with heating plate to approx. 80° C. Use a suitable sleeve to push on the roller bearing.
T35.31-0010-01
4 Attach spring test balance (4) to circumference of pinion housing (5) using e.g. a girth strap.
5 Place pinion housing (5) together with drive pinion (3) in workshop press.
Select a suitable sleeve (6) and place against inner race of outer tapered roller bearing.
6 Apply a continuously rising load to the drive pinion bearing while pulling on the spring test balance and interrupt the load as soon as the pulling force on the circumference of the pinion housing (F_ZUG) reaches a value at which the associated friction torque lies in the middle of the range of the desired value.
M_REIB = F_ZUG X R
M_REIB: Friction torque of tapered roller bearing
F_ZUG:: Pulling force on circumference of pinion housing
R: 1/2 X outside diameter of pinion housing

7 Press drive pinion out of pinion housing.
8 Measure dimension 'X' using the outside micrometer .
Dimension 'X' corresponds to the thickness of the spacer ring to be fitted.
9 Push new spacer ring onto drive pinion.
10 Place pinion housing on drive pinion and push on outer tapered roller bearing up to stop against spacer ring.
First, heat tapered roller bearing with heating plate to approx. 80° C. Use a suitable sleeve to push on the roller bearing.
