Before adjusting the preload of the tapered roller bearings, the gear backlash must be adjusted. The ring gear and pinion must be fastened to the universal assembly stand with at least 4 bolts in the area of the tapered roller bearings of the differential cage and ring gear (4) on the assembly adapter for ring gear and pinion HO 6/HL 6. The differential/ring gear shaft is horizontal.
1 Tighten the bolts of the bearing cap with the 1st stage torque value .
Only carry out when the bolts have been released from the bearing cap previously.
2 Swivel the ring gear and pinion so that the differential ring gear axis is perpendicular to the ring gear (4) in a downwards direction.
3 Detach the locking plates of the threaded rings.
4 Install the dial indicator holder (1) with dial indicator (2) and position the tracer pin of the dial indicator (2) on the end face of the journal (3) of the differential cage.
Fasten the dial indicator holder (1) in the bore for the locking bolt of the locking plate.
5 Turn the ring gear (4) through 10 revolutions and then position the scale of the dial indicator (2) on zero. Mark the measuring point on the journal (3).
6 Swivel the assembly device with ring gear and pinion through 180°.
7 Turn the ring gear (4) through 10 revolutions.
8 Read off the axial play under the dead weight of the ring gear (4) and differential on the dial indicator (2).
The tracer pin of the dial indicator (2) must again be located at the marked measuring point on the journal (3).
9 Carrying out bearing adjustment.
To do this, twist the threaded ring on the ring gear side using the square drift. In the process adjust the threaded ring so that the axial play determined is completely eliminated.
10 Check adjustment
Position the dial indicator (2) at the marked position on the journal (3) on zero and repeat steps 6 to 8. A residual deflection of less than 0.01 mm is permissible. Repeat step 9 if necessary.
11 Check the gear backlash again. If the specified value is not reached, adjust the gear backlash by the same angular amount by turning both threaded rings in an identical manner.
12 Tighten the bolts of the bearing cap to the specified rotation angle .
Only carry out when the bolts have been released from the bearing cap previously.
13 Install the locking plates of the threaded rings .
