1 | Drain automatic transmission fluid from planetary gear and rear axle differential | Refer to maintenance manual. | |
2 | Remove rear-axle shaft (6) | Remove both rear axle shafts. | |
3 | Unscrew propeller shaft (4) at drive flange (5). | To do this - Slide propeller shaft together in order to get clearance at the drive flange. - If necessary fasten propeller shaft to the underbody with the aid of a wire (so that the sliding piece does not slide out of the splines). | |
Installation: Lubricate propeller shaft after installation. | |||

4 | Remove differential assembly (3) | Lift differential assembly out of the rear axle bracket with the aid of the lifting tool. | |
Installation: - Clean sealing surfaces on axle housing and on differential assembly and coat with sealing compound. - Replace bolts. - Observe tightening procedure: First tighten two opposing bolts, then move in circular fashion to tighten the remaining bolts starting with one of the first two bolts tightened. - When lifting in apply differential assembly obliquely so that guide pin (19) in the rear axle bracket slides in the guide pin of the bearing bridge (20) of the ring gear bearing. | |||
