Remove/Install



All self-locking bolts must be replaced

Remove lower engine compartment covering

Remove bottom section of soundproofing capsule

Remove exhaust system complete

Remove from flange connection only. Models 168.03/13

Remove rpm sensors (L6/3, L6/4) (rear left and right) from wheel carrier



 Detach connecting cable from anchor of longitudinal control arm.

 Installation: Install new tie straps.

Disengage parking brake and detach brake cable (right rear)

Disconnect left brake cable from front brake cable

Remove brake cable (right rear (11d) and left) from frame floor (arrow) using remover



 To improve access, partly remove wheelhouse trim (left) (2 clips at bottom).

Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury caused by brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.

Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid.

Remove brake lines (6b) from brake hoses (5)

 Seal off brake lines (6b) using suitable plugs.

 Remove protective cap from brake line (left).
 Installation: Do not twist brake hoses (5) and route free from chafing.

Remove bracket (5b) securing brake line (left)

 Do not bend or kink brake line.

Place removal fixture (057) under rear axle


 Slide out guides of removal fixture (057) to bolts of longitudinal control arm and clamp using wing nut (arrow).

 Alternatively, this removal fixture can also be used.

With this version, the rear axle in the removal fixture must be swung down when removed.

Remove rear axle from frame floor



 Installation: recut thread in frame floor.

Lower rear axle using removal fixture (057)

 Before lowering rear axle, screw down turntable of removal fixture as far as it will go. Make sure that brake lines are not damaged when rear axle is removed.

Install in the reverse order
