| Removing | ||
1.1 | Detach wheel cover | On vehicles with steel rims.
1.2 | Remove front wheels | On vehicles with aluminum rims.
2 | Clean thread of the front axle shaft (1) with a wire brush and coat a suitable lubricant | The thread of the front axle shaft (1) must be free from corrosion and dirt otherwise the front axle shaft (1) may be damaged when unscrewing the nut (2).
3 | Remove nut covering (2) in aluminum rim, put on wheel and screw all way on using two wheel nuts | On vehicles with aluminum rims.
Do not tighten wheel nuts.
4 | Lower vehicle | On vehicles with aluminum rims.
5 | Loosen nut (2) | In order to avoid damage to the thread of the front axle shaft (1) the nut (2) should not be released using an impact wrench. The nut (2) must be loosened using a suitable wrench.
6 | Remove front wheels | ||
7 | Unscrew nut (2) | In order to avoid damage to the thread of the front axle shaft (1) the nut (2) should not be released using an impact wrench. The nut (2) must be unfastened using a suitable wrench. If the thread is damaged nevertheless, it should be recut and the front axle shaft (1) replaced if necessary.
8 | Drain transmission oil
9 | Detach flange joint (4) from steering knuckle (3) | Push transverse control arm on front axle down only as far as required, as otherwise the rubber bushings in the transverse control arm may be damaged.
Puller | |||
10 | Pull steering knuckle (3) outwards and press front axle shaft (1) out of the steering knuckle (3)
11 | Use a suitable assembly lever to pry off front axle shaft (1) from transmission (5) | The front axle shaft (1) must not be pulled out of the transmission (5) at the shaft, otherwise the frictional connection in the joint of the front axle shaft (1) will be destroyed.
| Install | ||
12 | Insert front axle shaft (1) into transmission (5)
13 | Pull steering knuckle (3) outwards and push the front axle shaft (1) into the steering knuckle (3) | Push transverse control arm on front axle down only as far as required, as otherwise the rubber bushings in the transverse control arm may be damaged.
14 | Mount flange joint (4) onto steering knuckle (3)
| |||
15 | Fill with transmission oil
16 | Screw on nut (2) | In order to avoid damage to the thread of the front axle shaft (1) the nut (2) should not be screwed-on using an impact wrench. The nut (2) must be screwed-on using a suitable wrench or torque wrench. Install new self-locking nut (2).
17 | Mount front wheels | Do not mount wheel cover on vehicles with steel rims or cover of nut (2) on vehicles with aluminum rims.
18 | Tighten nut (2) | In order to avoid damage to the thread of the front axle shaft (1) the nut (2) should not be tightened using an impact wrench. The nut (2) must be tightened using a torque wrench.
