When working on the front-end assembly, be careful not to scratch, mark or notch the surfaces of aluminum parts. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected

 Installation

Only tighten nuts and bolts of chassis components when vehicle is in a ready-to-drive condition.

Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

Vehicles with Sensotronic Brake Control (SBC)

 The following steps should be run through in STAR DIAGNOSIS:

Select menu item "SBC Sensotronic Brake Control"/"Deactivate 'SBC' system".

Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.

Remove front wheel

 Installation: Only fit the front wheel after adjusting the wheel bearing play.



Remove left front rpm sensor (L6/1) or right front rpm sensor (L6/2) from steering knuckle (5) and hang up to one side

 To do this, unscrew bolt (6a) and unclip electric supply lines from retaining clamps.

 Installation: Observe correct installed position; the scuff protection (5a) must be bolted to the front rpm sensor as shown. The chafe protection must not be fitted between the rpm sensor and steering knuckle (5).



Remove brake disk (61) at front axle.

Press tie rod joint (10a) out of steering knuckle (5)

 Installation: Replace self-locking nut.

 Check the rubber boot for damage and the supporting ball joint (7) for wear; replace if necessary: 

Then process all the individual steps from top to bottom.

Risk of accident when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work

Before starting engine, actuate brake pedal several times until the pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system.

Operate the brake pedal several times until brake pads make contact with the brake disks (61)

 Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.
