Remove/install

1

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Mark and detach compressed-air lines (2, 3).

 Installation: Pay attention to marking.

Mark bleed lines (1) in area of connecting point (A) at right and left.

Detach compressed-air line (7) at front axle and expose up to crossmember.

Disconnect bleed lines (1) at connecting point (A) and expose up to torque tube (14) of front axle.

 Installation: Connect bleed lines (1) using repair kit.
Observe markings.

Disconnect electrical connectors (4, 5) and expose electrical wiring harness up to torque tube (14) of front axle.

Remove stabilizer bar of front axle from brackets.

Remove screws (8) from articulated rod (6) at left and right.

 The screws/bolts (8) also fasten the axle strut onto the front axle.

Remove screw (12) from shock absorber (11) at left and right.

 Nut/bolt, shock absorber to front axle

Remove drag link (9) from steering control arm (10) and fix in place above with cable ties.

Remove transverse control arm (13) from vehicle frame.

 Bolt, transverse control arm to frame

Support torque tube (14) using jack stand.

Remove screws (15) from torque ball housing.

 Installation: Clean sealing surfaces at torque ball housing as well as at transfer case and apply sealant.

Loctite 5203 sealant

Pull away front axle with chain hoist from transfer case and place wooden block between the torque tube (14) and transfer case.

Remove screws (16) at propeller shaft (17).

 Installation: Before positioning the propeller shaft (17) at the transfer case, insert the previously specified shims into the torque ball housing.

Fix springs (27, 28) in place with tensioning strap (29).

 Fixing the springs (27, 28) in this position makes installation easier.

Raise vehicle at vehicle frame.

 Installation: Lower vehicle far enough until the springs (27, 28) rest on the spring cups.

Roll out front axle forward using a suitable bar.

 Helper required.

Put down vehicle at frame on jack stands.



Check

Adjust preload of torque tube (14) to torque ball housing.

 Installation: Insert specified shims between the torque ball housing and transfer case when installing the front axle.

Install in the reverse order



Check

Check oil levels of front axle.



Check compressed-air lines (2, 3) for leak tightness.

Check differential lock for proper operation.
