| Disassemble | ||
1 | Remove the vehicle's rear springs
Spring length dimension with normal load | Measurement A
Measurement B | |||
2 | Fasten the spring to a vise with protected jaws and at the spring rear end remove the clamp (11) the self-locking nut (13), the bolt (12) and the spacer bushing (14)
3 | Remove the self-locking nut (5) and the master bolt (spike) (4). | Insert a long pin in the master bolt place in oder to remove the shims, the leafs and the separators.
4 | Remove the master leaf (7) and the two metallic separators (6), the upper and the intermediate ones
5 | At the ends of the second leaf (8), remove the nuts (16) and remove the rubber supports (15)
6 | Remove the lower metallic separator (6), the third leaf (9) and the metallic shim (10)
| Clean | ||
7 | Clean well all the spring components | The spring leafs must not be washed with water jets or acids. Dry clean the leafs, and if they present rust, remove it with a thin steel brush and put an adequate protection. The original springs are painted with zinc based paint. The spring leafs must not be welded or drilled in any way whatsoever.
| Check | ||
8 | Check the condition of the leafs and other components | Replace them if necessary: Bent or deformed leafs. Deformed clamps. Master pin and clamps self-locking nuts.
Master leaf worn or cracked.
Second leaf worn or cracked.
Third leaf worn or cracked.
Worn master pin (spike).
Metallic separators (6).
Deformed lower shim (10)
Rubber supports (15) on the leaf (8).
The adapters (2) and shackles' articulation bushings (3) must be replaced.
| Assemble | ||
9 | Replace the adapters (2) bushings (3) of the master leaf (7) and shackle | Utilize an appropriate mandrel and a press.
During the assemblage, centralize the bushings (3) with regard to the adapters' edges (2) and shackles at the longitudinal member supports.
10 | Install new rubber supports (15) on the second leaf (8) | Check if the rubber supports are correctly fastened with the leaf nuts (8).
| |||
11 | Lubricate the blades, the shims and the metallic separators all around their surfaces with the specified grease.
12 | Assemble, in this order the metallic shim (10), the third leaf (9), the new lower metallic separator (6), the leaf (8) with the assembled rubber supports, the new intermediate metallic separator (6), the complete master leaf (7) and finally, the new upper metallic separator (6) | Utilize as guide a pin with the same diameter as the master bolt (4), which can be fastened to a vise to enable the leaf spring to be assembled in the vertical position, i.e., in its operation position.
13 | Assemble in the riveted clamp (11) to the third spring leaf the spacer bushing (14), a new bolt (12) with a new self-locking nut (13) and tighten the nut up to the specified tightening moment
14 | Tighten the self-locking nut (5) of the master bolt (4) up to the specified tightening moment | If necessary, in order to fasten the master bolt head (4), protect the vise jaws with aluminum or copper.
| |||
Total height of the spring at the center, assembled and with the tightened master pin.
15 | Clean the surplus of grease from the leafs. | If the spring is intended to remain in the storage, put adhesive tape on the cylindric part of the master bolt or protect it with an appropriate protective plug. Cover the bushings in the adapters.
16 | Install the springs in the vehicle. |
