3 | Lift the vehicle by the side rails | Do not lift the vehicle only by one of the sides. | |
The leaf springs (1, 4), the front bracket of the spring (21), the spring center bracket (22) and the rear bracket of the spring (23) must be free of load. | |||
4 | Remove the wheels from the vehicle | ||
5 | Remove the fixed strut rod (18) removing the hinge bolts and nuts of the strut rods (17, 19) | ||
6 | Remove the clamps from the leaf springs (14) removing the nuts securing the clamps (15) | | |
Do not support the axle by the central housing. | |||
Remove the screw from the leaf spring (2), the plate (3) and the packing plate (16). | |||
7 | Remove the leaf spring (1) | Lift the spring and remove it from the front carefully. | |
Be careful not to damage the master screw fitting on the axle. | |||
8 | Remove the pneumatic connections from the suspension bellows of the 2nd rear axle | As a safety measure. | |
9 | Remove the adjustable strut rod (12) removing the hinge bolts and nuts of the strut rods (11, 13) | ||
10 | Remove the clamps from the leaf springs (8) removing the nuts securing the clamps (10) | Remove the screw from the leaf spring (6), the plate (5) and the packing plate (9). | |
The 2nd rear axle is connected to the pneumatic suspension and its lowering stroke is limited by the lifting clamps of the suspension assembly so that even if the chassis is lifted by the stringers, the stroke of the 2nd rear axle downwards will not change. | |||
11 | Remove the leaf spring (4) | Lift/suspend the leaf spring (4) and carefully remove it from the front. | |
Be careful not to damage the master screw fitting on the axle. | |||

12 | Install the leaf spring (1) on the spring front support (21) and the spring center support (22) | Be careful not to damage the master screw fitting on the axle. | |
Install the screw from the leaf spring (2), the plate (3) and the packing plate (16). | |||
13 | Install leaf spring clamps (14) | Apply torque alternately on each nut of the same clip of the leaf spring (14). | |
Re-apply the prescribed torque after lowering the vehicle from the stands. | |||
The nuts securing the clamps (15) should be retightened after traveling 500 to 1.000 km with the vehicle loaded. | |||

14 | Install the fixed strut rod (18) installing the hinge bolts and nuts of the strut rods (17, 19) | On the 1st rear axle: | |
Do not exceed the prescribed torque. | |||
Mounting of fixed and adjustable tension arms on the brackets (with self-clinching nuts) | |||
15 | Install the leaf spring (4) on the spring center support (22) and the spring rear support (23) | Be careful not to damage the master screw fitting on the axle. | |
Install the screw from the leaf spring (6), the plate (5) and the packing plate (9). | |||
16 | Install leaf spring clamps (8) | Apply torque alternately on each nut fixing the clamp (10) on the same clip of the leaf spring (4). | |
Re-apply the prescribed torque after lowering the vehicle from the stands. | |||
The nuts securing the clamps (10) should be retightened after traveling 500 to 1.000 km with the vehicle loaded. | |||
