Remove/install

Drain coolant at radiator

Remove engine cover

 Installation: Ensure correct seating.

Remove engine air intake duct upstream of air filter

Disconnect electrical connection on coolant thermostat heating element (R48)

 The coolant thermostat heating element (R48) must not be removed from the thermostat housing (1).

Disconnect electrical connection (2) on coolant temperature sensor (B11/4)

Detach coolant hoses (3) from thermostat housing (1)

 Installation:
Check sealing rings and catch springs for damage, thoroughly clean connection but do not grease and ensure exact seating of the catch springs.
Leaks can occur on the engine otherwise.

 Installation: Check clamps for damage.

Detach engine wiring harness, swivel upwards and fix in place

 To do this unfasten screw/bolt (4) and unclip engine wiring harness from bracket (5).

Disconnect coolant hoses (6) from thermostat housing (1)

 Installation: Check clamps for damage.

 Hose clamp pliers

Remove screw/bolts (7)

 Installation: Mount bracket (8) on upper screw/bolt (7).

 Bolt, thermostat to cylinder head/coolant pump

Remove screw/bolt (9) and remove thermostat housing (1)

 Installation: Mount electrical connection (10) with holder on screw/bolt (9).

 Bolt, thermostat to cylinder head/coolant pump

Install in the reverse order

Pour in coolant

Check engine cooling system for leaktightness
