Risk of death cased by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

 Do not connect the quiescent current retention unit; otherwise, there may be a short circuit.

Raise vehicle.

Detach lower engine compartment paneling

Remove the heat shield (1) at the starter motor

 Loosen the nut at the bracket of the solenoid switch.

Remove bolts (8) and take off the bracket (7) of the oil lines



Detach the electrical line circuit 30 (2)



Detach the electrical line circuit 50 (3)

Unscrew bolts (6)



Unclip the bracket (5) with the cable harness (4) and place to the side

Take out the starter (M1) from the bracket

 Take out the starter (M1) vertically between the body and the diagonal strut in the downward direction.

Check the ring gear on the drive plate for wear and damage

 When replacing the starter on vehicles fitted with automatic transmission.

Rotate engine at the crankshaft in direction of rotation.

Install in the reverse order

Perform function check

Render electrical system operational

Read out fault memory and erase

 When the work is complete stored faults must be worked on in the diagnostic trouble code memories and erased.


