Danger | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | During cab tilting forward and backward, do not get in the inclination area and take preventive measures to stop unauthorized people from approaching the area. Alway incline the cab to its final position and latch it with the safety device.
1 | Tilt the cab | ||
Notes on tilting the cab
Installation: return cab to its original position only after tightness test.
Danger | Risk of fire/risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. | No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
2 | Disconnect the battery ground cable
Topical note | Notes on battery
3 | Remove the acoustic encapsulation (5) from the upper right-hand chassis | Clamp, intake air tubes in the turbo-compressor
4 | Remove the intake air hose (6) from the engine breather pipe (14)
5 | Remove the aspirated air hoses (6, 10) with the intake air pipe (7) | Installation: Clean the sealing surfaces.
Clamp, z folded intake air tubes in the suction tube
Clamp, charge air tubes in the turbo-compressor
6 | Remove the heat baffle plate (3) from the Turbobrake (17) | Heat deflecting plate bolt in the Turbobrake
7 | Remove the tightening strap (9) from the muffler (8) and bracket | Belt on the muffler and on the support
8 | Remove the clamp (12) from the exhaust pipe on the rear lifting eyelet (11) | Clamps on the support
9 | Remove the muffler (8) on the brake module (18), connect and move it back | Clean the sealing surfaces.
Clamps in the mouth of the engine brake and turbobrake
10 | Remove heat baffle plate (2) from the top of the exhaust manifold (1) | Heat baffle plate in the exhaust manifold
11 | Release the turbo air tube (4) from the bracket (16)
12 | Remove the oil pressure line (13) from the Turbobrake (17) | Collect the drained motor oil and plug the holes.
Installation: Replace the sealing rings.
Hollow bolt of the oil feeding tubes in the Turbobrake
13 | Support the Turbobrake (17) and the brake module (18) from below at the starter area with a suitable wooden shim (19)
14 | Remove the exhaust manifold (1) from the Turbobrake (17) | Plug the holes on the Turbobrake (17) and clean the sealing surfaces.
Turbobrake nut in the exhaust manifold
15 | Remove the exhaust manifold (1) from the head | Loosen only the rear screw from the exhaust manifold (1) at the bottom row. The exhaust manifold (1) remains suspended by this screw. Clean the sealing surfaces.
Exhaust manifold to cylinder head
16 | Remove the seals | Installation: Clean the sealing surfaces and replace the seals. Observe the mounting position of the seals; "TOP" should be displayed for the exhaust manifold (1).
17 | Remove the heat baffle plate (15) from the lower front portion of the exhaust manifold (1) | Only when replacing the exhaust manifold (1).
Heat baffle plate in the exhaust manifold
18 | Install in reverse order
19 | Check the motor oil level with the dipstick or the window; If required, fill up
| Notes on engine oil | ||
Observe the oil quality indicated in the maintenance system or the instructions regarding fuel.
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Chock the vehicle against unintentional displacement. Utilize closed and close fitting work clothes. Do not touch heated-up or moving parts.
20 | Start the engine, observe the oil pressure indication at idle and run a motor operation test | Do not increase the engine speed while the oil pressure is not indicated. After approximately 10 seconds, the oil pressure gauge should indicate the oil pressure.
Engine oil pressure, minimum permissible
21 | Switch off the engine and check for leaks at the exhaust manifold (1), Turbobrake (17) and brake module (18) areas | Visual inspection.
22 | Synchronize the time between the tachograph disk and the display |
