Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Remove

1

Start the engine, let it heat up to operating temperature and then, stop the engine

Coolant temperature, from 70 to 95 °C.

2

Open the engine compartment

The access to perform maintenance and repair works varies according to the manufacturer and the body type.

3

Remove the air intake line in the suction connection (12)

4

Remove the compressed-air line (11) from the working connection (2)

5

Check the correct status of the compressed-air tank for test (3)

WS13.00-P-0016B

Check the safety valve (5), as well as all connections with an usual leak finder spray. Drain the condensed water, possibly accumulated.

6

Install the compressed-air tank for test (3) and the compressed-air hose for test (4) in the connection (2)

7

Install the test carry-case (9) with the metering hose (8) in the compressed-air tank for test (3)

Check

8

Perform the filling time test

To perform the filling time checking, the engine operation and the time count must be started at the same time.
While the engine runs at idle speed, the pressure increase must be observed in the compressed-air tank for test (3).
When the specified pressure is reached, the time count must be finished and the engine must be stopped.

Test of supply time (with compressed-air reservoir for test and test case)

*BE13.30-B-1001-01EVI

9

Evaluate the filling time test

Compare the elapsed time with the admissible filling time.

Test of supply time (with compressed-air reservoir for test and test case)

*BE13.30-B-1001-01EVI

If the admissible filling time is exceeded:

Replace the air compressor (1).

AR13.30-B-0002EVI

10

Perform the metering of pressure loss

The pressure drop is measured by means of the seals in the compressed air compressor (1) in an specified time interval.

Pressure drop measurement

*BE13.30-B-1002-01EVI

If the pressure loss is too high:

Replace the air compressor (1).

AR13.30-B-0002EVI

11

De-pressurize the compressed-air tank for test (3) through the closing tap (7)

12

Remove the compressed air tank for test (3) and the compressed air hose (4) from the connection (2)

13

Check the compressed-air line (11) for coking

The coking is a process by which the mineral coal generates gases and fumes that are present in its structure when it is submitted to high temperatures in the absence of oxygen, resulting a solid, porous and no-meltable residue.

In case of coking, additionally check the compressed air pipings between the air compressor (1), the compressed-air dryer, and the 4-way protection valve and/or the electronic air processing unit (EAPU); as needed,

replace the coked parts.

Install

14

Install the compressed-air line (11) in the connection (2)

Compressed-air line cover nut on compressor sleeve

*BA13.30-B-1008-01EVI

15

Install the air intake piping in the suction connection (12)

16

Start the engine and let it idling

17

Check the piping junctions in the air compressor (1) for leak tightness

Visual inspection.

18

Stop the engine

19

Close the engine compartment

20

Print the questionnaire and fill it up completely

Only in case of air compressor replacement (1) and claiming of costs coverage in the scope of warranty and of the courtesy services.

Questionnaire for checking delivery rate and oil ejection of compressor, form

OF13.30-B-1000-02EVI

For a claiming of warranty and/or courtesy, the removed air compressor (1), together with the form completely filled up and the test sheet used in the oil drag test should be presented for diagnosis purposes.
