Risk of injury caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/rear-end door or sliding roof.

No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving.

Remove/install

Switch off ignition and remove transmitter key

Remove engine cover

 Installation: Ensure correct seating.

Unscrew oil filler cap

Remove camshaft Hall sensor

Detach low-temperature circuit coolant line from engine charge air duct and place to one side

Rotate engine at crankshaft using counterholder in direction of engine rotation and place piston for cylinder 1 at top dead center (ignition TDC)


The engine must not be turned back.
The timing chain can skip otherwise and cause engine damage.

 The 00° CKA marking on the belt pulley/vibration damper (arrow) must align with the stay (2) on major assembly carrier.

Check basic position of intake camshaft

 The marking on the intake camshaft (A) must coincide with the marking on the camshaft bearing cap (B).

If the marking on the intake camshaft (A) is not visible:



Continue to turn the crankshaft through one revolution, place at 00 marking and check again.

If the markings (A, B) do not coincide, adjust camshafts:



Check basic position of exhaust camshaft

 The marking on sensor rotor of the exhaust camshaft (D) must coincide with the marking in the bore for the camshaft Hall sensor (C).

If the markings (C, D) are not aligned:



Install in the reverse order
