Put retarder operating lever at the "0" position and turn the ignition off

Clean up oil drain plug area (1), screwed cap (2), and oil supply plug (3)

 Perform an oil change when vehicle is stopped at horizontal level and retarder oil temperature is higher than 60°C.

 Warning

Risk of injury caused by touching hot retarder and by scalding from hot retarderoil. Risk of injury to skin or eyes caused by retarder oil escaping under high pressure

Do not carry out any work unless retarder is switched off. Wear suitable protective clothing and safety glasses when working on the hot retarder.

Remove oil drain plug (1)

 Collect the drained oil in a clean recipient.

Remove screwed cap (2) carefully

Install adapter (4), with sealing ring, in the hole where screwed cap was (2)

Connect tire gauge (5) to adapter (4)

Apply short air pulses with tire gauge (5) on the retarder

 Repeat this action until getting out just oil mist from oil drain plug (1).

Inspect

Check the volume of leaked oil in the recipient

The amount of oil should be removed from the 5.4 to 5.6 liters. In case of doubts:



Low oil volume, you should check the transmission oil level and retarder regarding leak (out) and the sealing between transmission and retarder.

High oil volume, you should check the transmission oil level and sealing between transmission and retarder.

Remove tire gauge (5) and adapter (4)

Refill

Remove oil supply plug (3)

Install oil drain plug (1)

 Replace the sealing ring.

Install screwed cap (2)

 Replace the sealing ring.

Fuel up slowly the amount of prescribed oil

 for a correct bleed of the retarder system, the oil should be put slowly longer than 3 minutes.
