Conduct a road test

The transmission oil must be at operating temperature to be changed.

Park vehicle on a horizontal surface

Apply parking brake and shift transmission to neutral position

Detach engine compartment paneling under the transmission

In case of model 671.000/005/010/312/322/327,



Remove and install bottom engine compartment paneling

On model 671.015/020/021/030/042/332/333

Clean area around oil drain screw (1) and oil filter cover (3)

 Pay attention to cleanliness during all work on automatic transmissions, because contamination in the oil circuit can result in malfunctions and defects in the automatic transmission.

Unscrew oil drain screw (1).

 Collect the oil using a suitable container and allow to drain off completely.

Screw in oil drain screw (1).

 Replace sealing ring.

 With transmission 721.108/109/141/151/181/182

Detach oil filter cover (3)

Clean oil filter cover (3)

Replace oil filter cartridge (4)

Attach oil filter cover (3)

 Replace sealing ring (5).



Open maintenance flap covering transmission

Open cap (6) and pull oil dipstick (8) out of oil filler tube

 Wipe off oil dipstick (8) with a lint-free rag.

Insert filler hose of funnel (7) in the opening of the oil filler pipe



Pour in approx. 10 l of transmission oil

 Only use approved oils.



Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not grasp hot or rotating parts.

Start engine and slowly pour in 4 l of transmission oil while engine is idling

 Only use approved oils.



Actuate service brake and engage all selector lever positions in sequence

Remain in each selector lever position for a few seconds. Then shift the transmission back to neutral.

Check oil level at oil dipstick (8) with engine idling, correct if necessary

 With a transmission oil temperature of approx. 30 °C, the transmission oil must be in cold measuring range (B). With a transmission oil temperature of approx. 80 °C, the transmission oil must be in hot measuring range (A). Always suction off excess transmission oil which has been poured in or drain it at the oil drain screw (1).

 Only use approved oils.



Turn off engine

Check oil drain screw (1) and oil filter cover (3) for leaks

Attach engine compartment paneling below transmission

Remove and install bottom engine compartment paneling
