Move selector lever to position "D"

Secure the vehicle against rolling.

Remove front paneling from partition wall

Remove cupholder.

Remove ashtray from front center console

Pivot center console (1) at rear upward, pull out of instrument panel toward rear until electrical connectors for COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3) and AAC pushbutton control unit (N22) are accessible.

Carefully handle center console (1), otherwise the rear area of the center console (1) can be damaged by sharp-edge parts of the partition wall or the control cables of the partition wall window can be damaged by the center console (1).

Have second mechanic help.

Installation: First position center console (1) at top of instrument panel and then lower at rear.

Disconnect electrical connectors on COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)

Installation: Ensure that electric wiring harness is routed properly.

Disconnect fiber optic cable on COMAND operating, display and control unit (A40/3)

Center console (1) must be held by second mechanic.

Installation: Ensure that fiber optic cable is routed properly.

Cover fiber optic cable

Disconnect electrical connectors from AAC pushbutton control unit (N22).

Installation: Ensure that electric wiring harness is routed properly.

Lift center console (1) over selector lever and turn to driver side until electrical connectors (5, 6) are accessible.

Handle center console (1) carefully to prevent damaging the center console (1) or the instrument panel.

Disconnect electrical connector (5) from FCP control unit (N72) and electrical connectors (6) for cup holder cover illumination (7) and ashtray cover (8).

Number of electrical connectors (5) depends on vehicle equipment.

Installation: Ensure that electric wiring harnesses are routed properly.

Remove center console (1) from vehicle.

Carefully remove center console (1) from vehicle to prevent damaging parts in passenger compartment or the center console (1).

Install in the reverse order

Synchronize the stepper motors

STAR-DIAGNOSIS, menu point "Actuations/normalization of stepper motor".

Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory
