Template
1 | Install the check device (2) at the contact surface of the tapered group housing |
2 | Gradually tighten both threaded rings of the tapered roller bearings while observing the achievement of the required preload in the gauge |
3 | Rotate the crown a few turns to accommodate the tapered roller bearings and return to the starting position. Observe any fall in the preload. If necessary, correct by actuating the threaded rings with the squared spindle |
4 | Validate the clearance between the teeth of the gear and the pinion and, if necessary, correct and repeat the preload adjustment |
5 | Tighten to the prescribed torque the screws of the lock plates of the threaded rings |
Make sure that the device (2) is properly seated on the surface of the conical group housing, and that the stops are fully supported on the sides of the largest bearing. |
The gauge of the check device (2) should be supported on the smaller bearing. |
Check the diameter engraved to the master ring used to reset the check device. Example: the engraved value is 316.12 mm, thus the dial indicator hand can move only 0.02 mm to the left or 0.03 mm to the right, since the standard reading for the bearings preload is between 316.10 and 316.15 mm. |
If the nominal preload value is exceeded, release the threaded rings and repeat the operations from step 2. |
