Dial gage

Each set of bevel gear and drive pinion has a certain assembly measure for the obtainment of the perfect contact marks between the teeth.

Due to the manufacturing tolerances the dimensions generally divert from the standard basic measure

This deviation is printed on the oblique face of the bevel gear and can be positive or negative with regard to the standard basic measure.

There are:

G = basic measurement

G1= Negative measure

G2= Positive measure

Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

1

Install the dial indicator (1) with the extension rod in the adjusting equipment (2) without fixing it.

2

Install the standard adjusting device of 98.00 mm (3).

Adjust the dial indicator to zero with a preload of 2 mm.

Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

Example: G= 98.00 mm - Basic drive pinion measure

B35.30-0060-01

Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

3

Install the adjusting equipment (2) by resting the half-disks of the tool on the housing of the differential case bearings and the probe tip of the dial indicator on the support surface of the magnetic block.

Spin the adjusting equipment (2) radially to one side and to the other until determining the smallest point indicated on the scale of the dial indicator (1).

4

Check the basic dimension observing the divergence from the value indicated on the bevel gear .

Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

Example: G1= 98.00 mm - 0.20 - 97.80 mm

B35.30-0061-01

Negative measure

Determine installed dimension of drive pinion gear

Example: G2= 98.00 mm + 0.20 = 98.20 mm

B35.30-0062-01

Positive measure

5

Observe the deviation of the basic depth recorded on the drive pinion top or on the outer face of the ring gear. .

Example:
(289) -0,20 (G1)
(289) +0,20 (G2)
The first group of numbers (289) represents the gear set number, the second recording (-0.20 or +0.20) indicates the deviation in relation to the basic measure.
Example of a gear set 289/ -0,20:
- Basic measure: 98.00 mm
- Deviation indicated on the ring gear: -0.20 mm
- Basic measure for adjustment of the drive pinion: (G1) = 97.80 mm

6

Remove or install compensating washers according to the measure obtained in the checking.

Have in mind the basic measure (G).
