Danger ! | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting | Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Danger ! | Risk of death from lowering vehicle when working between wheels and body. Risk of injury from pinching or crushing when working on the air suspension. | Testing and repair work between the wheel and wheel arch or in the wheel well should only be performed if the vehicle is secured using suitable support fixtures to prevent it from lowering.

| Check | ||
1 | Check whether the cross member (13) is installed | If the cross member (13) is installed:
| |||
Do not perform any more operations.
If no cross member (13) is installed:
| |||
Continue with step 2. | |||
Preparation | |||
2 | Paint cross member (13), gusset plates (14, 15, 19, 20), shims (11, 12, 21, 22), bracket (23), compressed air reservoir (27) and retaining strap (29) in frame color
| Remove | ||
3 | Switch on ignition | ||
4 | Lower trailing axle | ||
5 | Raise vehicle frame at rear axle to maximum height using level control | To ensure that there is sufficient clearance above the trailing axle to install the cross member (13).
6 | Support vehicle frame behind trailing axle
7 | Switch off ignition | ||
8 | Completely empty compressed air reservoir (4)
9 | Remove compressed air reservoir (4) | With regard to return shipment or scrapping of removed parts, please observe the information in your warranty system.
10 | Detach bracket (5) of compressed air reservoir (4) from frame | With regard to return shipment or scrapping of removed parts, please observe the information in your warranty system.
11 | Pull brackets (2, 7) with wiring harness (3) upwards out of fastener elements (1, 6) on left of frame
12 | Pull brackets (9, 17) with wiring harness (18) upwards out of fastener elements (16, 10) on right of frame
13 | Remove front fastener elements (6, 10) on right and left of frame | Mark the exposed bores at the foremost mounting point of the shims (11, 22) to be installed.
14 | Remove bolts on right and left of frame which must be removed in order to install the shims (11, 12, 21, 22)
| Install | ||
15 | Install shim (12) and gusset plate (15) on top right of frame | Bolts:
Frame sections to frame
16 | Install shim (21) and gusset plate (19) on top left of frame | Bolts:
Frame sections to frame
17 | Install shim (11) and gusset plate (14) on bottom right of frame | Bolts:
18 | Install shim (22) and gusset plate (20) on bottom left of frame | Bolts:
19 | Install cross member (13) | Bolts:
20 | Tighten all bolts on cross member (13) and shims (11, 22) and gusset plates (14, 20) at the bottom | Frame sections to frame
21 | Paint all bolts and nuts on cross member (13), and the shims (11, 12, 21, 22) and gusset plates (14, 15, 19, 20) in the frame color
22 | Remove all stop plugs from compressed air reservoir (27) and install screw plugs (25, 26, 28) and connection and elbow fitting (24)
23 | Install bracket (23) for compressed air reservoir (27) on front right of frame | Bolts:
Frame sections to frame
24 | Fasten compressed air reservoir (27) to bracket (23) with retaining strap (29)
25 | Expose the compressed air line (8) which was connected to the removed compressed air reservoir (4) along the wiring harness in the left of the frame so that it can be connected to the newly installed compressed air reservoir (27) | To do this, cut all cable ties and, after exposing the compressed air line (8), attach new cable ties to the wiring harness in the left of the frame.
26 | Route compressed air line (8) along existing wiring harnesses on frame to newly installed compressed air reservoir (27) and fasten with cable ties
27 | Connect compressed air line (8) to connection and elbow fitting (24) of compressed air reservoir (27)
28 | Install front fastener element (6) immediately in front of lower shim (22) on right of frame
29 | Install front fastener element (10) immediately in front of lower shim (11) on left of frame
30 | Detach bracket (7) from wiring harness (3) and reposition so that the bracket (7) can be inserted into the front fastener element (6) | Replace cable ties.
31 | Detach bracket (9) from wiring harness (18) and reposition so that the bracket (9) can be inserted into the front fastener element (10) | Replace cable ties.
