TV broadcasters all over the world are gradually changing the TV broadcasting standards.
For example, they are changing to HDTV with a higher resolution (up to 1080 pixels) or are changing from DVBT1 to DVBT2.
The technical details of the revised standards and the changeover dates must be researched in each market.
These changes accordingly affect TV reception in our vehicles with code 865 (TV tuner). In most cases, the effects range from disrupted reception to no reception at all. This does not constitute a product defect or any fault in assembly parts or components. Any conversions carried out are not warranty services. We therefore recommend that the customer be informed about the costs of the modification in advance.
As the TV broadcasters around the world are changing their transmission methods at different times, we can make no statements concerning dates at this stage. We ask you to approach your national TV broadcasting companies or to find the changeover dates in your local news services. Another potential source of this information is the Internet.
With this changeover, various TV programs in certain countries will only be broadcast in encoded form. If the customer wishes to receive encoded programs, the appropriate code 381 (CI+BOX card reader for DVBT2 standard) can be retrofitted subject to a fee.
The relevant retrofitting instructions can be found in Group 82 in the Workshop Information System (WIS).
The parts scope for the retrofit can be found in Groups 98 (Card readers) and 99 (TV tuners) in the EPC.
The previous combination of code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)) and code 865 (TV tuner) is implemented in a common control unit. The conversion to the new TV standard means that a new, modified TV tuner is used. With this, instead of the combined operation of DAB and TV, only a pure TV mode is possible. The new TV tuner is backward compatible, i.e. it can process both DVB-T1 and DVB-T2 signals. The customer must be informed about this situation before the modification is carried out. Should the customer wish to retain the DAB function, then no modification is possible!
The table below lists the telematics generations with a comparison of the reception methods possible to date and the possible conversions.
