Due to recent events we would like to refer you to important information about cleaning the plastic cover plates on headlamps, rear lamps, turn signal lamps and position lamps.
To clean the plastic cover plates on headlamps, rear lamps, turn signal lamps and position lamps, MercedesBenz recommends the use of cleaning agents with order number A 001 986 38 71 09 (50 ml) or A 001 986 38 71 (500 ml) in combination with an appropriately soft and clean cloth. When cleaning, always refer to document AH82.10-P-1002-01A (see below).
Cleaning agents that have not been approved by MercedesBenz or cleaning agents bearing a "Caustic" logo (1) may on no account be used.
Otherwise, the damage-free cleaning of the plastic cover plates on headlamps, rear lamps, turn signal lamps and position lamp can no longer be guaranteed.
The use of non-approved cleaning agents or cleaning agents bearing a "Caustic" logo (1) can cause damage, as illustrated above, to plastic cover plates on the headlamps, rear lamps, turn signal lamps and position lamps.
The plastic cover plates on headlamps are made of polycarbonate. The plastic cover plates on the rear lamps, turn signal lamps and position lamps are made of polymethyl methacrylate. The plastic cover plates on the headlamps are also coated with a clear varnish. When cleaning the plastic cover plates that have a damaged clearcoat (e.g.stone chippings will damage the paint coat on the headlamp) a cleaning agent bearing a "Caustic" logo (1) may attack the polycarbonate. This can speed up the formation of cracks even more.
To clean the plastic cover plates, wipe them off with a wet sponge. Do not use scouring agent or a dry cloth.
Otherwise, the surface will be scratched.
Observe the safety precautions.
Otherwise, surface damage such as, e.g.a milky-colored coating, dull areas and stress fractures may occur.
Do not allow plastic lenses to come into contact with solvents or cleaning agents which contain solvents.
Otherwise damage can occur as the surface is not fully resistant to solvents.
