Previously, models 963, 964 with disk brakes were only fitted with brake calipers from Knorr. Since the start of 2016 brake calipers from Wabco are also installed.
Production control is based on internal production codes. As the previous vehicle model designations remain unchanged, and there are no sales codes for vehicles with disk brakes, it is not possible to state which vehicles are equipped with brake calipers from Wabco.
The new brake caliper from Wabco differs in design from the previously-known brake caliper from Knorr.
Accordingly, we have redefined the contents of the necessary maintenance and repair operations, and defined the new special tools and part kits required.
New documents have been created for conducting the maintenance and repair operations. These new documents also include the new special tools and how to use them.
For the initial period after introduction only certain repair operations are planned to be conducted, see list below. The description of the repair work for the brake caliper shall be issued at a later date.
Accordingly, the replacement parts department only covers the scopes (brake calipers, brake carriers and parts kit for disk brake pad) that are assigned to the approved repair operations.
When ordering a new brake caliper, the brake carrier has to be ordered too and vice versa. I. e. only a new brake caliper with new brake carrier or a new brake carrier with new brake caliper may be installed.
In a warranty/goodwill case, the brake caliper must always be removed along with the brake carrier and submitted through the usual channel for inspection. Both parts must remain assembled to ensure that an accurate inspection can be made.
The clicking noise heard when adjusting the brake adjuster is typical for brake calipers from Knorr. Brake calipers from Wabco do not exhibit any audible clicking noise.
When adjusting brake adjusters on brake calipers from Wabco clicking noise must not be heard.
If, when adjusting the brake adjuster on a brake caliper from Wabco, clicking noise can be heard, the brake adjuster is defective. In such an instance, the brake caliper and brake carrier must be replaced.
