With immediate effect, maintenance and repairs on propeller shafts may only use high-performance propeller shaft grease, Shell Retinax LX 2 Grease, as per the Specifications for Operating Fluids Sheet 267.2. If other greases are used, the service life of the universal joint component parts (universal joint spider, cardan spider bearing etc.) of the propeller shafts may be curtailed.
Note on propeller shaft sliding piece:
On all propeller shafts produced from 1995 onwards, the sliding piece has a Rilsan coating which renders it maintenance free. From this point in time onwards, the sliding piece comes with a blind screw instead of a lubricating nipple.
