A ruling has been determined for selected product groups with regard to the activation of retrofits with parts that are not genuine Mercedes-Benz parts (known hereinafter as "third-party products"), and it is to be applied as described below.

The following additional codes/product groups are currently available:
1 FN = Trailer hitch
2 FN = Stationary heater
3 FN = Exterior lights
4 FN = Radio/Telematics
5 FN = Driver assistance/Cruise control
6 FN = Seat conversions
7 FN = Parking assist/Reversing camera/Parktronic system

For liability law reasons MB workshops are obliged with immediate affect to document all retrofitting of non-genuine Mercedes-Benz products (modification to vehicle) per
FN code, to enable consequential damage
to be assigned on an originator basis.
Please note that this is also necessary if the product does not require any SCN coding or other form of activation per DAS/XENTRY (documentation to be through VeDoc data card).
The manufacturer and the retrofitted third-party product type must be entered into the AO Text (field organization text) tab in the VeDoc system.
Any additional scopes in relation to the third-party product that have been retrofitted must be entered in this text field (e.g. whether the engine-cooling output has been adapted as per manufacturer specifications when a trailer hitch has been retrofitted).

If customers in your MercedesBenz dealership wish to have a product activated that is not a genuine Mercedes-Benz product from the above-mentioned product group overview (per coding), then the exclusion of liability form must be used for any retrofits by external suppliers (OF00.00-P-3000-10A).
This form is to be signed and stored at the company in a tamperproof manner.
Please also notify your customer that this signed form is to be kept together with the vehicle documentation and - in the event of any resell - the new vehicle owner is to be notified of the third-party retrofit.

Upon activation or the documentation of third-party retrofits Daimler AG will not assume any liability for warranty and implied warranties for the third-party product. The manufacturer in question or the company responsible for the installation shall be liable for any damage or claims.
Please expressly advise your customers of these facts.
Example 1 for coding a genuine Mercedes-Benz trailer hitch:
Enter code 550 into vehicle data card (DAS/XENTRY or VeDoc).
Then, conduct SCN coding as per WIS installation instructions.
Example 2 for coding a non-genuine Mercedes-Benz trailer hitch:
Enter code 550 and code 1FN into vehicle data card
(DAS/XENTRY or VeDoc)
Enter "manufacturer and type" of third-party product into VeDoc AO text.
Enter conversions/additional scopes (e.g. cooling was not converted) into VeDoc!
Conduct additional steps as per third-party installation instruction
(not MB product) if required
Observe country-specific regulations.
